Green Tea Ginger Lemonade

In the “dog days of summer” you may be looking for a refreshing and cool drink not loaded with sugar or other harmful ingredients.  This Green Tea Ginger Lemonade is easy to make and refreshing.

Each of the ingredients are also beneficial to health and wellness.  Below is a quick summary of each:

  • Ginger is useful in treating many different forms of nausea, including morning sickness.  It also helps to reduce muscle pain and soreness and has anti-inflammatory properties known to reduce the effects of osteoarthritis.  It also can help to lower a person’s blood sugar and reduce their risk of heart disease.
  • Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that help to improve brain function, facilitate weight or fat loss and lower a person’s risk of cancer.
  • Lemons contain many different vitamins, including vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin thiamin, riboflavin, copper, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and protein.  Lemon oil has been used to treat a number of skin disorders, hair conditions, stress disorders, fever, infections, asthma, obesity, insomnia and many stomach disorders as well as fatigue.

The recipe below comes from Rebecca Kat’s The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen where ginger, green tea and lemons are combined to make a natural, refreshing beverage.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 1/2-inch slices peeled fresh ginger
  • 2 green tea bags
  • 1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (without seeds)
  • 2 teaspoons honey

Directions:

  1. Place the water and ginger in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Lower the heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tea bags.  Steep for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bags and ginger.  Stir in the lemon juice and honey.  Chill for at least 1 hour before serving over ice.
  4. Throw in some frozen grapes as ice cubes and garnish with a few mint sprigs for a refreshing summer drink!
